Simple Science: Ice Age Meltdown

With a 3 year old in the house, the simplest thing is exciting! Like this ice melting activity. She learned about liquids(water) that turn into solids (ice) when very cold and again to liquid when exposed to heat (the sun).

We used those Ice Age toys we got with the McDonalds happy meals (the ones you never know what to do with but ends up with so may of them!) and froze them in blue water (we used blue food colouring).

We waited for a hot day and took the iced block with animals outside to see what will happen. It was quite a heavy block of ice, and took a few hours to melt down completely.

#languageskills were developed through this activity and concepts like freeze and melt were displayed in a playful, but visual way.
One could use any type of toy and build a story around it, and freeze/melt it. I will be sharing more ideas the more we play, so check in soon!
