Recycle Crafts: Christmas Tree

We are really getting into the Christmas Spirit now, so all of our crafts revolve around this theme 

lately.

This Christmas tree project is made out of recyclables: cardboard pieces for the tree itself, an egg containers lid for the stand, matchstick boxes for the "gifts", wrapped in used wrapping paper. 

The decorations are loose parts we used in our Magnetic Hunt box.

For the tree we used two cardboards cut into identical trees. Then cut a slit in one from the top to almost the bottom, and the other one from the bottom to the top, so you can slide them into each other for the 3D effect. 

We painted the tree pieces by using our rolling brush, makes it nice and even-looking. (is that even a word? But you know what I mean,lol)

Here is the tree without the decorations, but can you see how it stand in the egg box? It could stand by it's own, but it is more sturdy this way.

I let Lella decorate after we let it stand up, just for a different, interesting way of working, that is not on a flat surface. It is quite tricky with the glue running down, but here was another lesson: only use a tiny bit of glue to avoid the problem (toddlers tend to use way too much glue for a small object).

Now I know, it is not the most prettiest Christmas tree you've ever seen, but, it is a classic example of a 3 year old's own attemp to craft, and I let her, because she needs to have an open ended activity like this to develop #creativeskills. And she was very proud of her tree too;)
