Now this was fun!
The other day when the cousins came for a visit, I taped down the town "road" with the red tape, gave them these recyclables and said: "Build!". They needed a little guidance: "This looks like it can be a road sign!", "Let's try and think what different buildings we have in our city and use the brown bags to draw it on first!", etc.
I knew Lella would not really enjoy an activity like this on her own, because one needs a lot of imagination(which she is still developing), but the 4 and 7 year old cousins have lots if imagination to let this game take off!
They made a few stop signs and traffic lights. (Funny how we call them robots here, I always thought that is what it is called everywhere in the world, but apparently not!)
More road signs can be added when you want to teach your children about Road Safety.
The boy cousin realized the cars need a parking bay, so a few more tape strips were added. There were a church and a hospital, a few houses and office buildings.
The older cousin decided in the middle of the town is a play park. Note the cute slide! And I love the play baby in the "sand pit"!
They really enjoyed this activity, and if we had more time, I think the "town" would have gotten very big. I love how they used their imagnination, and their real life experiences building this town.
This could be a lovely activity in a classroom when the theme is 'My Town'. (Including 'Road Safety'). Children are developing so many skills while they play, and that is the best way for learning!
