Scented Sand Art

I bought 2 boxes of Drink-o-Pop powdered cooldrink sachets the other day, thats about 140 sachats, 8 different flavours, and started to use some of this in #playrecipes that I found on Pinterest (these recipes call for Kool Aid, but we don't get that in South Africa). {See our Pinterest board 'Play Recipes'}
But then I thought let's try this with making a glue picture, like you would do when you do sand art. (by the way, the recipe for DIY sand art is 5:1, salt: powder paint)

So that is what we did, and it smelled divine!

 We used four different flavours, orange, cream soda, grape and strawberry.

First I wrote Lella's name in glue and she used the powdered cooldrink to make the glue a colour. Quite interesting effect: the colour of the powder is very light, but when it comes in contact with the glue(getting wet), it is a very bright colour (unfortunately the photos don't do justice to this effect).

She had to pick the powder up using only the thumb and forefinger, practising #finemotorskills in the process. Some #sensoryexploration going on here when touching the glue(sticky,wet), powder(coarse,dry), smelling the different flavours etc.

With her squeezing the glue bottle for her own picture, she also used #finemotorskills, and of course #creativity, although I believe the process is more important than the product.

I helped her to make a flower out of the drops of glue she squeezed.

A lovely activity, with endless posibilities, and it smells soooo nice! Why don't you try it with your kids today?
